Biography
Professor Sheng Lim is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He is part of the glaucoma service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, one of the leading glaucoma centres in the United Kingdom, where he leads a multidisciplinary team managing complex and advanced cases. He was the International Glaucoma Association Post-doctoral fellow at a variety of hospitals under the supervision of Dr Brubaker and Dr Johnson.
Professor Lim attended the University of Leicester Medical School and qualified in ophthalmology at some of the most prestigious institutions in the country before undertaking a specialist glaucoma fellowship. He has developed particular expertise in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and advanced drainage procedures, including the PRESERFLO MicroShunt and tube surgery.
He is recognised for his calm and thorough approach to patient care, and his ability to explain complex conditions clearly. Showcasing a strong commitment to evidence-based practice and remaining actively involved in clinical research and teaching.
Research interests
Professor Sheng Lim’s research and clinical interests centre on glaucoma, with a focus on surgical techniques and improving outcomes for patients with advanced disease. He has a particular interest in the PRESERFLO MicroShunt, drainage tube surgery, and laser-based treatments for glaucoma, and has contributed to the growing evidence base for these procedures. His cataract surgery practice includes complex cases, particularly those requiring careful management alongside coexisting glaucoma.
He is actively involved in clinical trials and audit, and contributes regularly to national and international ophthalmology meetings. Professor Lim has published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is committed to advancing surgical education within his specialty.
